Music Live! It’s So Much Better
There’s no better opportunity to catch your favorite act or a rising artist than to hit the local music venue or cabaret bar in your city. This season, as the weather starts to spring up on us all and winter whittles away - the warm breezes will be here before you know it - live music is a great way to make the most of having to stay inside.
Fortunately you’ve got good reason to get out and brave the chill! The first being the very exciting return of the "Million Dollar Man" - Tony Award Winner Levi Kreis. He’s had a lot to celebrate since winning the coveted statue for this stunning turn as rock ’n’ roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis in the Broadway hit musical "Million Dollar Quartet."
As moving a moment as that was for the talented artist, Kreis has nary been sitting still since. He first got our attention with his soulful lyrics on the debut album "One of the Ones" (2005) and his follow-up "The Gospel According To Levi" (2007) made us all believers. With his charming wit and hypnotic skills on the piano, it certainly never hurt that he is also as electrifying a vocalist as he is a sexy heartthrob.
So Much Better...Live!
Levi Kreis is now getting set to hit the road. He’s "Flying Solo" on his latest tour - that’s the title of it - to promote his upcoming pop album project "Imagine Paradise" due out later this month. "I reached out to my fans to come up with the songs for this album," he says. "I listened to them share a story of themselves, and I turned those stories into a song." An unconventional approach to song writing for sure, but given his connectivity to his audience and the exuberance of his new single "So Much Better" - it’s clear that his fans have inspired him to reach new heights.
"I want to create an environment of warmth and celebration," Levi says about performing, and about the new album’s set list: "I wanted to have fun. This is the stuff that I want to listen to."
This may be the most commercially viable album Kreis has released to date, and could well become his most successful. Due out soon, and just in time, as Levi Kreis brings his "Flying Solo" Tour to a city near you through March and April with more dates to follow. Go to www.levikreis.com for venue and ticket info as well as to reserve your copy of Imagine Paradise due out June 20th.

New York City cabaret continues to grow by leaps and bounds. Now one of the city’s most entertaining acts is going big time. Marty Thomas is taking his popular Monday night "Diva" cabaret event that has been drawing a faithful crowd to the Manhattan hot spot Industry Bar to the glamorous Off-Broadway hub at New World Stages. It’ll be a very special night dedicated to everyone’s favorite songstresses.
"We try to touch on a little Celine and Mariah, a little Britney and Whitney - We touch them all," Thomas enthused. Joined by his magnificent cast of "local divas" including Kelly King, Alexa Green and Marissa Rosen, you can still expect a surprise chanteuse - or two - to join them on the more elaborate New World Stage.
"It’s our 2-year anniversary, and we’re taking the show to a new level," he promises of the New World Stages production. "We’re taking ’Divas’ to a whole new level. It’s come along beautifully." The show starts at 8pm at the New World Stages ...but get set for more! Immediately after the big show you can join Marty Thomas and his divas when they return to their regular Hell’s Kitchen haunt at Industry Bar. You won’t want to miss the after party/encore presentation.
They’ll be joined by a very special guest and will be celebrating the release of the Divas’ album which will also be available and feature Marty Thomas and his hotly talented cast.
And For an Encore...
If that’s not enough, there’s still more. Thomas who can truly be considered the "King of the Cabaret Set" doesn’t stop with this special one-night only engagement.
He also has a weekly show every Friday night at the Time Out Lounge which he co-hosts with Marissa Rosen. They are often joined onstage by some of Broadway’s best. The Time Out Lounge is also located inside the New World Stages. This is better than a jukebox!
Tickets are going fast for Marty Thomas presents ’Diva’ one night only on Monday, March 4th at 8pm at the New World Stages in New York City on 340 West 50th Street. Limited seating is available at www.telecharge.com. Then join them immediately afterwards for the "After Party/Encore" featuring special guest Eden Espinosa at Industry Bar at 355 West 52nd Street.
