Lucky Number 13: Aqua Girl Becomes a Teenager
MIAMI BEACH, FL - For just about every girl, turning 13 and becoming a teenager is a milestone. Gone are the childish days (well sort of) and ahead, a bright future.
Celebrating its 13th birthday, the Aqua Girl® event in Miami represents a coming of age celebration for the LBT community. Aqua Girl® is a weeklong women’s festival in Miami’s South Beach that creates a safe environment for women from all over the globe to socialize, network and have a great time.
This year’s event, which is May 2nd to May 6th, will feature a something-for-every-woman array of pool and dance parties, comedy shows, film screenings and fitness workshops with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Aqua Foundation for Women.
A Look Back At Aqua Girl®
What began as a one-night breast cancer benefit in 1999, has grown into the largest charity women’s week in the country, having raised more than $1.8 million dollars for Aqua Foundation for Women. Through the years Aqua Girl has been attended by thousands of women, all with the focus of having a good time for a great cause.
Since its inception in 2004 the Aqua Foundation for Women, which helps support the personal and professional growth of LBT women through grants, mentorship programs and scholarships, has given out over $400,000 and empowered hundreds of women to engage in the LBT community achieve their potential. In South Florida, Aqua Foundation for Women supports initiatives such as Safe Schools South Florida and the Pride Center healthcare referral service, as well as the University of Miami’s School of Nursing and Health Studies.

Promising to be the biggest event to date, Aqua Girl® 2012 will encompass the best of the world-famous South Beach scene.
Highlights of this year’s schedule include:
· VIP Cocktail Reception- Aqua Girl kicks off with an elegant fusion of culture, food and drink sponsored by Mercedes-Benz. The event features a live auction, a recognition ceremony and entertainment.
· Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival- A screening of festival centerpiece Girl Trash, a film based on characters from the popular lesbian-themed Web series of the same name.
· Jessica Kirson live-Stand-up comic Kirson - who has appeared in top comedy festivals and won the "Best Female Comic" award from the Manhattan Association of Clubs and Cabarets - entertains with jokes and impressions.
· The Beach House- Aqua Girl’s main Saturday pool party. Celebrity DJ Tracy Young will spin house and electro beats while the Miami Heat dancers perform sexy routines as revelers enjoy swimming, socializing and poolside games at the Surfcomber Hotel.
