Eating Out: The Open Weekend
Zack (Chris Salvatore) and Benji (Aaron Milo) are considering "opening up" their relationship. They decide their vacation is the perfect time to try it out. Coincidentally, Zack’s ex Casey (Daniel Skelton) is at the resort with his friend Penny (Lilach Mendelovich). Casey enlists the help of an old friend Peter (Michael Vara) in making Zack jealous. And that’s it. The rest of the film pans out in a pretty expected way.
"The Open Weekend" lacks some of the star power of previous films. Ronnie Kroell almost singlehandedly reignited the series with his appearance in "Eating Out: Drama Camp." "Eating Out" regulars Rebekah Kochan and Mink Stole also do not appear much in the film. Jennifer Elise Cox ("The Brady Bunch Movie") does make a few appearances and delivers some funny lines.
Sadly, even by soft-core porn standards the film under-delivers. The "foursome" scene you come to expect throughout most of the film, from the press materials, is a pretty hot scene until it’s overshadowed by some bad jokes.
The film isn’t all bad. The "love" story is mildly engaging and does carry you through the film. However, the film is really just "middle of the road." It is not as funny or sexy as you would expect. Instead, the film delivers you a stupid comedy, with nothing that sets it apart or makes it exciting to watch.
The DVD version does not include any special features.
"Eating Out: The Open Weekend" is worth checking out if you are a huge fan of the franchise. If you have yet to see an "Eating Out" film this might not be the one to convert you to a fan. It can be fun at moments but overall is a tepid film without much to set it apart from the many other gay comedies out there.
