XXXBoys :: Drew Cutler gets real
Do we really know what the life of a porn star is like when off camera? Well, I visited a bit with one of my favorite porn boys (because he’s nice, not because of his endowment... okay, maybe a little bit because of nature’s good fortune), Drew Cutler, and chatted about his upcoming reality show feature with Naked Sword amongst other things.
Reality shows have gone into the boardrooms and the living rooms of housewives, so why not the bedrooms of porn stars, right? Well, maybe not the bedrooms, but you get my drift. Drew shared a lot about himself with me, and it was a true pleasure to find out that being a nice, community-minded guy is not an act with him. He is genuinely likeable. Take a read at what I mean.

BeBe: Drew, I know San Francisco, the gay porn capital of the world, is home for you now, but where are you originally from?
Drew Cutler: New York. I grew up in New York, and I eventually made it out to Las Vegas, onward to Los Angeles for 5 years. I just moved to San Francisco a year ago. It’s my one-year anniversary right now in San Francisco.
BeBe: Did you move West to get into the adult film industry? Or did porn present its face in your lap, so to speak?
Drew Cutler: I originally moved to Las Vegas for the job that I was in at the time, a multi-state manager in a corporate company. And then I decided to give that up and move to West Hollywood and start anew. I was a bartender there for a few years, and I kind of got to do as I do now, submerge myself into the community, and part of that community-at-large in West Hollywood is the porn industry. Through that network, I spoke with Chi Chi LaRue (Channel 1 Releasing). After our first meeting, I was put in her next movie. That was a little over 2 years ago.
BeBe: And the rest is history, as they say.
Drew Cutler: Exactly.
Back on track
BeBe: Getting your start with Chi Chi is a great way to start.
Drew Cutler: I’ve actually grown quite fond of her. Chi Chi and I are pretty good friends right now.
BeBe: I’m a huge fan of Chi Chi’s. You’ll never hear anything bad about her come from my lips for sure (if I value my life!)
Drew Cutler: Absolutely. Same here.
BeBe: You were out of commission from filming for about 6 months due to an injury. What was going on there?
Drew Cutler: Yes. That last scene I shot was called "Assassin" for Lucas Entertainment out of New York back in February.
BeBe: So, is getting back into filming like riding a back? You fall off and get right back on?
Drew Cutler: Well, it definitely is! But, the biggest part of the injury was the inability to stay in the gym and work out. I lost about 15-20 lbs of muscle. My body didn’t look the way it did (before). So, it wasn’t a question of can I or can I not shoot? It was a choice that I made because I do want to maintain a certain image and give the fans what they want to see. I didn’t want to start shooting a bunch of "twink" movies or movies that weren’t my genre.
Exclusive or not?
BeBe: Totally understand.
Drew Cutler: So, I’m back in the gym now, and the next film I shoot is the end of next month. I have 60 days to give you the old Drew.
BeBe: Now, you are no longer under an exclusive contract, are you?
Drew Cutler: No. I originally was when I started my career, but now a free agent. I work for anybody and everybody, as long as it meets my needs.
BeBe: You like that versus an exclusive agreement?
Drew Cutler: I do. There are two sides to that coin, of course. If you are in a one-year exclusive contract with a company, you have built in the contract the amount of movies you will make, and are guaranteed a certain amount of dollars to go along with that. So, for the next year, you know how much you are going to make and what you have to shoot. Like a regular job, you therefore know how much you will make for the year and can budget accordingly.
That is one good side of the contract. But, the flip side to that is that is all you can do for the year. You can’t branch out to other genres or other companies that you may want to work for. I like to work for multiple companies, and multiple people and experience new things. And if you are good at your work, you never have to worry about things any way.
BeBe: Outside of Chi Chi LaRue, because I assume she is on list of directors you like, who else would be on your list of directors to work with?
Drew Cutler: Let’s see, Chris Ward (Falcon/Raging Stallion Studios). Steve Cruz (Falcon/Raging Stallion Studios) is fantastic. I just shot with Tony DiMarco (Falcon/Raging Stallion Studios). I shot the movie "Brutal" with him (Best Director and Best Videographer at the 2011 Grabbys).
Jaded?
BeBe: You are also featured in yet to be titled porn reality show produced by Naked Sword. Tell me a bit about that.
Drew Cutler: Basically, the untitled show follows six porn stars in San Francisco and is the life of a porn star. There are five leading main characters, which with me include Samuel Colt, Chris Porter, Tristan Jaxx, and Leo Forte. Cameras following around in our lives to show you how things are. You know I work as a bartender at the EDGE Bar here in San Francisco, so, we did a lot of shooting in there as well. Combines a little bit of the reality and fantasy of our lives.
BeBe: That will be interesting to watch. Reality TV is such the craze. I’m sure everyone wants to know what the ins and outs are in living the life of a porn celebrity. Which leads me to ask you, you are well recognized for doing what you do on screen even when tending bar, do you ever tired of the celebrity of it all? Do you ever get away from being Drew Cutler?
Drew Cutler: That’s a great question. First, I have to admit I don’t think it is ever too overwhelming. It is something that I chose to do. It is something I enjoy doing. And, I am so thankful that fans do recognize me, and want to ask me questions and want to get to know me better. While bartending, it is great because it puts more money in my pocket and more money in the bar’s pocket. I really think it is a win-win situation. I can’t see much down side to it (the recognition). I guess when you are not on stage that you are kind of looking over your shoulder, but you know what, I am who I am. I don’t care!
BeBe: I’ve always wanted to ask this question of a porn celebrity, and for some reason during the many interviews I’ve done of porn stars, it always seems to escape me. So, you are the lucky one, I guess. I want to liken the personal sex practice of a porn star to that I imagine of say a gynecologist. I would think that after gyno has looked at and in vagina all day that the last thing he/she wants to see when they get home is a pussy (trying not to bust up laughing). So, my question is does having sex all day on a set affect your intimacy at home with a partner?
Drew Cutler: (Laughing) I’m not jaded per se (about sex at home). I mean, I have had a lot of sex off of film. I have led a very sexual world my entire life. Part of the reason I got into porn was because I don’t mind being in front of a camera and getting paid for something that I enjoy. But, I’ve had a partner for the last year, and when you are home, you are home. And when I have sex with my partner, it’s like sex you or anyone else would have any day of the week. And that is the truth. I probably do have a little different attitude about sex than the average person because I’m not looking for that next crazy experience. Chances are I’ve already had that experience.

BeBe: Been there, done that!
Drew Cutler: Shooting porn and doing sex on set all the time does change the mentality a little bit, but it certainly doesn’t lower the expectation at home.
BeBe: Well, I know you were at Southern Decadence in New Orleans (NOLA) this year. How was that experience? You were in the Big Dick contest, weren’t you?
Drew Cutler: Let me give you a quick rundown on that. I spent like 5 or 6 days there. Arrived on a Thursday night which was the first big night there. Chi Chi and Sister Roma hosted the Big Dick contest that night at the Bourbon Pub. I chose not to enter the contest because it was really for the people attending Southern Decadence really. And ironically the Big Dick contest is a contest without showing your dick, so you know what, it really didn’t matter to me anyway (laughs).
The rest of the weekend was absolutely fantastic. Chi Chi and Roma hosted the two parties on the balcony above the New Orleans Hotel in coordination with Swiss Navy Lube company. Chris Porter was there. Kevin Colby was there. Jason Sparks and all of his exclusive boys from his membership site. It was just one big fun, family get together. I will tell you this, there was not one person that was shy there that weekend, no matter who you were. Porn star or not! When they say it is decadent, it is really decadent! With tropical storm Lee there from Thursday to Monday getting everyone wet who were dancing in the streets, it just made everything that more sexy. It was an experience that only the weather could have brought about. It didn’t hold anything back.
BeBe: Now Drew, we talked about what you did before getting into the adult film industry, but what will you plan to do when you leave the industry?
Drew Cutler: I don’t know. Be a drag queen like you, I guess (roar of laughter from both of us). Well, I’m currently working with a few people to develop my own membership website and produce my own content. I recently started directing (adult films) through some porn companies. So, I think that will be my next step... producing, creating, and directing content.
I just want to bundle him up and take him home, not for your dirty-minded reasons, but because it’s always welcoming to have substance within a great looking package. I tend to like conversation after dessert, if you get my meaning. And for someone like Drew who has sexually experienced it all (his words, not mine), I think we would have plenty to "talk" about. No conference calls, please!

As an actress, BeBe was introduced to film with a lead role in the independent film "Under One Sun" with her character dealing with religious, racial and gender issues. Additionally, she appeared in the campy musical "Devious, Inc" (Australian Film Festival, San Francisco Short Film Fest) also adding additional vocals to the musical soundtrack. Both of these performances led to her selection for a lead role in Aisha Media’s next short film series, "Con-tin.u.um" to be released in 2012.
